In the heart of the Iberian Peninsula, close to the Spanish capital, extreme opposites are the order of the day. The Madrid region has Spain's hottest summers and the coolest winters. And while the metropolis is one of the country's most significant industrial centers, the residents of the nearby mountain villages of Sierra Navacerrada live their lives as though they were frozen in time. Here, right in the heart of this rural idyll, the MBM (Mackay, Bohigas, Martorell) firm of architects, together with interior architect José Maria Font, has translated these opposites into stunning architecture: Over a living space of 500 square meters, a glass and metal structure akin to a railway carriage, supported on lofty stilts, abuts a traditional stone building at right angles. The most spectacular point of this building, however, is the intersection where the two parts of the house meet. And it's not by chance that this is precisely where the 60 square meter kitchen is situated. What point could serve as a better connecting point than the one in which we prepare our food and enjoy it together? With its stylish functionality, the bulthaup b3 kitchen transcends the numerous contrasts of its surroundings. The discreet kitchen island with its white fronts comes equipped with a water point, hob and white bar. And standing in this communicative center of the kitchen gives you a view over the open dining area, which flows seamlessly into a relaxation area with fireplace and a white, round sofa. Spotlights inset into the ceiling and a fluorescent strip on the floor cleverly give the room the feel of a purist lounge, while the daring colors - the kitchen has a deep red concrete floor - communicate a very cozy feel. So bulthaup b3 fits into these surrounding extremes without losing any of its own star quality. That's because, no matter what its setting, this kitchen remains what it has been and always will be: extremely beautiful!
