It can be found nestling between Toulouse and Bordeaux, in the French region of Aquitaine: The medieval fortress known as the "Château de Frespech.” And it is precisely within these old walls that a Franco-British couple have realized their dream of living in a knight's castle.
The historic monument, as it has been officially classified as since 1925, had to be completely renovated, since of course there was no running water or electricity connections back in the early Middle Ages. A suitable room also had to be found for the heart of the castle - the kitchen. For the owner, the most important point in the renovations was that the old castle must lose none of its medieval charms.
When original semi-vaults were uncovered during the restorations, the decision was made instantly: This is the perfect spot for cooking! The historic semi-vaults are now integrated stylishly into the new bulthaup b3 kitchen. The elegant bulthaup b3 kitchen units create light-colored focal points in the otherwise dark surroundings. And a rediscovered, long-forgotten niche of the kitchen also merges harmoniously into the overall concept, with made-to-measure bulthaup shelves complete with concealed lighting.
The newly-designed, open dining area features an original French ceiling, a "plafond à la française” in the characteristic blue, to match the spirit of the Aquitaine region, situated on the Atlantic coast. The exposed walls and floating candles over the specially made bulthaup c3 table together create a combination with a tremendous atmosphere. The Y-chairs from Hans J. Wegner also form the perfect practical and sensorial finishing touch to the room.
The past and the present merge in the "Château de Frespech” to create the perfect combination. The owners are delighted, since they are able to "enjoy a period that no longer exists in most parts of the world” and celebrate the region's culinary delights with friends and family in their new bulthaup b3 kitchen.
